Early Life

Pink was born in Doylestown, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Judy Moore, a nurse, and James Moore Jr, a Vietnam veteran. Pink grew up in Doylestown, where she attended Kutz Elementary School, Lenape Middle School, and later the Central Bucks West High School. It was while at high school that she developed a interest in music and joined her first band, Middleground, at the age of fourteen. However the group never gained popularity outside their home town and eventually folded after losing a local talent contest to a rival high school band. At the age of sixteen Pink joined the R&B Atlanta-based trio Choice, which included Chrissy Conway who later found fame with Christian girl group ZOEgirl. The group signed with LaFace Records and contributed "Key to My Heart" to the soundtrack of the 1996 comedy film Kazaam. Choice eventually disbanded after recording an unreleased album.

Musical Career

Pink remained at LaFace records as a solo act following the split and released her debut album, Can't Take Me Home, in April 2000. The album went double platinum in the U.S., peaking at # 26 on the Billboard 200, and sold five million copies worldwide, narrowly missing out on the U.K. top ten peaking at # 13. The albums first two singles, "There You Go" and "Most Girls", reached the top ten in both the U.S. and the U.K. The album's third single, "You Make Me Sick", peaked at # 33 on U.S. Billboard Top 100 and # 9 on the U.K. singles chart and was later featured in the film Save the Last Dance. In 2001, Pink recorded a cover of Labelle's 1975 single "Lady Marmalade" with Christina Aguilera, rapper Lil' Kim and Mýa for the soundtrack of the film Moulin Rouge!. The single topped the charts in fifteen different countries, including the United States, United Kingdom, Germany and Australia.

In early 2001 Pink returned to the studio to record her second album, Missundaztood. She recruited 4 Non Blondes singer Linda Perry, who contributed guest vocals on "Lonely Girl", to help her with writing of the new album, which was released in November 2001 in the U.S. and January 2002 in the U.K. The first single released from the album was "Get The Party Started" which peaked at #4 in the United States and #2 in the United Kingdom. At the 2002 MTV Video Music Awards, the video for the single won in the Best Female Video and Best Dance Video categories. The album's other singles, "Don't Let Me Get Me", "Just like a Pill", and "Family Portrait" were also radio and chart successes, with "Just like a Pill" becoming Pink's first solo UK number one hit. M!ssundaztood and "Get the Party Started" earned nominations at the 2003 Grammy Awards for Best Pop Vocal Album and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance, respectively. The album is Pink’s biggest selling album to date selling 16 million copies worldwide.

Following a successful world tour, The Party Tour, Pink released her third album, Try This, in November 2003. Try This debuted at number nine on the U.S. Billboard 200 with first-week sales of 147,000 copies, a much weaker debut than that of M!ssundaztood. The album's first single, "Trouble", reached number two in Canada and the top ten in the UK and Australia, but it peaked only at number sixty-eight on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. The follow up single "God Is a DJ" failed to chart on the Hot 100 but reached #11 in the UK. A third single, "Last to Know", was released exclusively in Europe and peaked at twenty-one in the UK. "Trouble" also earned Pink her second Grammy Award, for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance, at the 2004 Grammy Awards.

Pink released her fourth album, I'm Not Dead, in April 2004. The album sold 126,000 copies in its first week in the U.S. debuting at # 6 and at # 3 in the U.K. selling 39,892 copies and went on to become the ninth best selling album of 2006 in that country. The album yielded seven singles, "Stupid Girls", "Who Knew", "U + Ur Hand", "Nobody Knows", "Leave Me Alone (I'm Lonely)", "Dear Mr. President" and "'Cuz I Can". I'm Not Dead was most successful in Australia, where it was certified nine times platinum and produced five Top 5 singles. The album was also certified platinum in the U.S. with more than 1.3 million copies sold, and more than 6 million worldwide.

In October 2008 Pink released Funhouse, her fifth studio album. Upon its release, the album reached # 1 on the charts in Australia, New Zealand and United Kingdom, while debuting at # 2 in Germany, Ireland, France and United States. The album's lead single, "So What" became the first solo # 1 of her career on the Billboard Hot 100. The track has also reached # 1 in Australia, United Kingdom, New Zealand, Canada and Germany. The second single off the album "Sober" reached # 16 on U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and peaked in the top ten in both the U.K. and Australia. "Please Don't Leave Me" has been announced as the third single to be release early in 2009 in Australia, and will likely serve as the third single elsewhere.
